Peter Holmgren, Director General of the Center for International Forestry Research, shares a message for International Day of Forests, 21 March 2014.
Forests: Seeking solutions for global challenges
Forests are central to our economy, our climate and our culture. They are an integral part of the world's landscapes and essential to sustainable development for a healthy planet. CIFOR is seeking to redefine forestry in the context of the Sustainable Development Goals process and in the lead-up to the 2015 United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change negotiations on the Kyoto Protocol's successor. International Day of Forests is a day to reflect on how forestry needs to be part of this landscapes-based solution.
